Yeah, you read the headline correctly. I know, I know, this a knitting blog but I am learning to quilt and why not? I knit, crochet, embroider, and I’ve been known to sew on occasion. Why not learn something new?
My favorite thing about quilting is…it’s easy! Okay, it’s not so easy that a caveman could do it but it is easy. I don’t have to backstitch. There are packs of curated complimentary fabrics in bundles with silly names like jelly rolls and fat quarters, to take the pressure out of fabric selection. With the proper sewing foot, seam allowance is a breeze. Yep, quilting is easy. Then again, I did pick an easy pattern. My first quilt is a “strip” quilt from a kit. The kit was great because I don’t have a lot of room to cut a bunch of fabric and the kit is is simple enough that I can’t really screw it up. I did manage to sew a couple of strips together backward but that was easily remedied with a seam ripper and a re-sew. 🤗 That’s a lot better than unraveling a sweater in progress for tons of rows when I make a mistake knitting.
Here is the top of the quilt to be. I hope to get a border, backing and binding on soon and quilt it so I can give it to my little grandson. I hope he enjoys it as much as I have making it.
